History
Junkers CL. In the final stages of World War I (1914-1918), I was a pioneering aircraft design at the time. Due to production difficulties in war-torn Germany, fewer than 50 of the aircraft were produced on a limited basis. Junkers approaches CL.
1 Primarily metal designs and low-wing monoplanesmanufacturers at the time preferred wooden planes with upper and lower wings (biplanes).
Development of CL. 1 Formed in the previous all-metal construction style in Junkers D.I and J.I. CL. No. 1 has two standard operators, who sit with the pilot in the front open cockpit, while his gunner/observer sits in the rear cockpit.
As usual, the engine is mounted at the front, with a single-blade rear spoiler. Power is provided by a 180-horsepower Mercedes D. IIIa series liquid-cooled inline 6-cylinder engine. This, combined with the fuselage design, allows for a top speed of 100 mph, with service capped at 19,600 feet. The aircraft is equipped with standard armament of 3 x 7.92mm machine guns - two fixed forward-firing, a third mounted on a trainable mount in the rear cockpit - and an anti-personnel grenade launcher mounted under the fuselage .
Despite the revolutionary design, the German factory was proficient at rapidly building fabric-covered wood planes and discovered the CL's metal design. 1 Difficulty integrating into generally accepted practice. Promising CL. So until the end of the war I lost and had little influence. Although CL.
1 After the failure, the concept of all-metal construction of aircraft became the norm during the interwar period. In fact, all-metal airplanes were the norm during World War II, making cloth wooden frames largely obsolete.
