History of the NORINCO Sharp Eye III
China North Industries Corporation followed the global example and developed the "Sharp Eye III" unmanned rotorcraft (UHS) helicopter system. This product is suitable for unarmed or armed reconnaissance attack roles.
The ability to act like a traditional helicopter provides a unique tactical advantage on the modern battlefield, allowing access to forward combat areas often cut off by fixed-wing aircraft types.
Its design layout mimics a traditional helicopter with a main rotor mast and torque-cancelling tail-mounted blade units. Both the main rotor and the tail rotor elements are of a twin-blade design. The fuselage contains all major components, including the mission payload and engines, and a slender tailstock extends from the rear upper part of the fuselage, allowing the propulsion system to reach the tail rotor.
The landing gear has a simple skid arrangement and is fixed in flight.
Like other UAS products, the Sharp Eye III is operated via a manned ground control unit (GCU). The listed operating upper limit is about 3.5km, and the take-off weight is in the 450kg range. The top speed is 180 km/h and the mission duration window is 4 to 6 hours.
