SNCAC NC. 1071 Stories
The early NC did not perform well. The 1070 forced SNCAC designers to redesign their proposed carrier-based attack platform in other ways. This prompted engineers to replace the piston-driven Gnome-Rhone engines with a pair of Rolls-Royce "Nene" turbojets, each producing 5,000 pounds of thrust. NC form and function.
The 1070 is largely intact, as only the changes around the new engine mount differ from the outgoing "NC. 1071". By the way, NC did this Rolls Royce engine pairing. The 1071 was the first aircraft of French origin to feature multiple jet engines in its propulsion system.
The twin-boom design remains at the heart of the improved aircraft, which combines a central nacelle with a rectilinear monoplane wing, twin-boom tail and a unique horizontal plane at the tail. The required length of the Nene engine meant that each unit had to be placed forward in its nacelle, resulting in NC. The most embarrassing look of 1071.
The nozzles also required the addition of vents at the very end of the tail boom, which in turn caused the lower part of the horizontal plane to be removed (leaving only the upper stabilizer in place). Another missing piece from the original design was the loss of the rear powered turret - a glass spotter is now mounted in its place.
In this form, NC. The 1071 flew for the first time on October 2, 1948, and performance issues appear to have appeared in early NCs. 1070 issues were eventually resolved. Their test pilots also found the handling to be quite strong. Just like NC. 1070, but NC. The 1071 eventually broke during testing. This happened on July 27, 1949.
The aircraft was repaired to continue its flight phase, after encountering major structural issues, the aircraft was repaired again and is now improved to continue flying. On May 8, 1951, she was damaged again, and that was all that was left of the cancellation plan shortly after.
NC. The 1071 family also includes studies in the form of an all-weather fighter "NC.1072" and an attack bomber "NC.1073". Neither is funded.
