GAZ VPK 3927 (Volk)

History

In form and function, the relatively new and proven VPK-3927 "Man" serves the Russian Army as a version of the ubiquitous American "Hummer" - a highly mobile multipurpose Vehicles, designed for various missions and out of the field. Design work began in 2010 with the GAZ "Tigr" as a starting point - with appropriate modifications to meet common security/military requirements.

The People premiered during IDELF in 2010.

The VPK trademark is a brand name of the GAZ Group.

The result is a 11.25 ton (short) vehicle using 4x4 full suspension (independent hydropneumatic) wheel assemblies. A standard operator consists of two people, and the passenger seat can accommodate up to eight combat readiness personnel.

Dimensions of the vehicle include a barrel length of 22.10 feet, a width of 8.1 feet and a height of 6.10 feet. Armor protection is suitable for small arms fire and artillery jets, while the high armour version provides protection up to STANAG 4569 level 3. The car features automotive-style doors on the sides of the fuselage for general entry and exit for the driver and front passenger, and rear passengers use the rear door assembly.

Internally, the Volk is powered by a YaMZ-5347 series diesel engine producing between 240 and 300 hp. Road speeds are up to 81 miles per hour, and the operating range is up to 620 miles. Excellent ground clearance, dynamically adjustable to 1ft 10in for good off-road maneuverability.

The driver is seated in the front right and a passenger is seated to his left. The engine is housed in the front compartment, with large slats in the front of the car. The headlights are placed in the absolute corners of the vehicle for driving in low light conditions. The spare tire is carried along the rear surface of the fuselage.

Volk armored vehicle range features a modular rear to adapt to the changing needs of the battlefield. The basic approach is the standard VPK-3927 model, followed by the VPK-39271, which adds crew and passenger protection throughout the cabin space.

The VPK-39272 is a hybrid people/cargo carrier with a modular tail that can be adapted to different roles as needed. VPK-39273 is a 6x6 wheel shape.

The modular nature of the vehicle allows the tactical use of the line to be expanded to accommodate roles such as ambulances, signal vehicles, mobile workshops, etc.
