History

Like other German military systems of World War II (1939-1945), the SdKfz 10-series half-tracks were secretly designed and developed, and their tests were done under the guise of commercial products. This model is classified as a light half-track and is intended as a propeller for light artillery pieces ranging from the 2cm FlaK 30 anti-aircraft gun to the 7.5cm leIG infantry support gun (vehicles have official towing capabilities). 1 ton).

Demag's design work in Dusseldorf continued from 1934 to 1938, and production continued from 1938 until the end of the war in 1945. By the end of the war, around 14,000 units had been produced, along with some notable series models.

The players who brought the SdKfz 10 to the front of the war (besides Demag) included Adlerwerke, Bussing-NAG, MWC, MNH, MIAG and Sauerewerke.

The vehicle weighs 10,800 pounds and measures 15.5 feet long, 6.3 feet wide, and 6.6 feet high. A standard operator consists of two people, including the driver, while an additional six to eight passengers can be carried. Power comes from a 100 hp Maybach HL42 TRKM series liquid-cooled 6-cylinder gasoline engine (earlier versions of the Maybach engine only offered 90 hp).

This engine is paired with a Maybach VG 10218H series drivetrain. Interestingly, the power only goes to the rear track components, not the front wheels with rubber tires. The non-drive front wheels mean that steering can be tricky in soft terrain. Nonetheless, the overall design allows for quite good off-road capability or when trying to traverse rough terrain.

The chassis is suspended on a torsion bar system with 13 inches of ground clearance, which also aids off-road driving and allows driving through low-water springs. Road speeds can reach 47 mph and range is up to 190 miles. Off-road driving reduces the range to 93 miles.

The SdKfz 10 is available in countless wartime configurations. The most important (official) variant of these is the base model of the SdKfz 10 transporter. The SdKfz 10/1 is a chemical detection model and the SdKfz 10/2 is a chemical purification model. The SdKfz 10/3 is another chemical warfare related vehicle equipped with a 130 US gallon poison spray can.

SfKfz 10/4 (1,370) with 2 cm Flak 30 anti-aircraft gun system installed. The SdKfz 10/5 was changed to the FlaK 2 cm FlaK 38 series anti-aircraft gun with a higher rate of fire.

Both AA models feature folding panels that act as a platform for the rifle squad when deployed, and the gun unit can be detached and used in its traditional stationary role.

In addition to these forms, many other unofficial standard and non-standard models have emerged. A soft top can be fitted over the passenger and driver compartments to protect them from the environment.

When not covered, the side walls of the passenger area are inherently low enough to quickly unload infantry. The passenger compartment can easily accommodate a towed gun (such as a 3.7cm gun), while the rear of the vehicle can still pull forward for additional hardware.

Signal cars and command/observation cars were also born from minor modifications (if any) to the basic SdKfz 10 design. Other models (semi-permanent) had their guns mounted in the passenger compartment as mobile artillery platforms, while other temporary modifications were made on site, some of which were supported by 3.7cm PaK-36 and 5cm PaK-38 anti-tank guns.
