History
The 155mm L45 CALA 30 gun (Argentine Army No.: Canon 155mm. L 45 CALA 30) is an Argentine long-range field artillery system developed for the Argentine Army with limited service.
CITEFA was developed in the late 1980s and early 1990s [citation needed] as the Canon de Artilleria de Largo Alcance Calibre 155 Milimetros L45 CALA 30 to complement (and eventually replace) the CITER 155 mm L33 artillery, which has been in service with the Argentine army .
This development draws lessons from the use of artillery from the Falklands War. The battlefield scenario that prompted the development of the L45 was the inability of British naval forces to leave the beach for long periods of time.
Argentine observers were unable to call in the long-range guns because the 155mm L33 guns with the longest range were too scattered and out of range. For this reason, cluster munitions for the L45 were also developed. [citation needed] CITEFA drafted an improved version, called CALA 30/2, containing improvements to the first prototype tests.
This was tested in 1996 when a range of 39 km was specified using special EFRB-BB (Extended Range Full Bore - Base Bleeding) ammunition.
