History of the Nexter Aravis
The Aravis was an infantry motor vehicle designed and built by the French company Nexter. In April 2009, the French Armaments Agency ordered 15 Aravis vehicles to be used by the French Army as reconnaissance and escort vehicles for engineering units.
Delivery of initial orders began in January 2010.
As part of Operation Barkhane, the French army deployed 11 Aravis in Afghanistan (from 2010 until the French left) and 6 in Mali from 2016. In both cases, Genie (military engineering) units use them to clear routes. A French army Alaves was also found in Syria during the Battle of Deir ez-Zor.
Nexter Aravis is known to have been used by units of the Gabonese Republican Guard against renegade Gabonese soldiers during the 2019 Gabon coup.
