The modern Chinese navyofficially known as the Peoples Liberation Army Navy (PLAN)continues to leapfrog as China exerts increasing pressure on its regional rivals in the South China Sea. The service consists of many different ship types, and its structure is comparable to that offered in Western countries, including the United States.

Frigates are part of a strong family of surface combatants, one type of which is the Type 056 frigate class, which consists of a large number of standardized missile-carrying warships.

These include CNS Xinyang (501), a guided missile frigate for general patrol operations as well as airspace deterrence and anti-ship operations. The warship entered service in 2015 and is built to a standard of 1,440 tons and is currently making her part of the North Sea Fleet.

The Type 056 frigate is 90 meters long, 11 meters wide, and has a draft of only 4 meters. This compactness allows the frigate type to operate close to shore and patrol important waterways when needed.

About 60 classes are planned for planning, while more than 40 currently make up available inventory.

These boats are powered by 2 x SEMT Pielstick PA6-STC diesel engines driving 2 x axles under the stern. Under ideal conditions, these vessels can sail at speeds of up to 25 knots and have a range of up to 3,500 nautical miles.

There were about seventy-eight people on board. Both the bow and tow sonar arrays are carried, and the Type 347G radar suite forms the primary processing chamber. A naval helicopter can be operated from the stern helipad, adding over-the-horizon anti-ship/anti-submarine measures to the ship.

Structurally, the boat follows the established modern design with its streamlined stealth-focused lines. Except for the deck guns, the forecastle is relatively unobstructed, and the hull superstructure extends down to the bridge and enclosed mast. The overall container has a relatively low profile, with pipes arranged along a line, while itself has a closed design. The funnel is located amidships behind the main mast and leads to the aft fuselage's superstructure, which is attached to the single helicopter's helipad. Additional sensors, radar and weapons are located above the rear fuselage superstructure.

The sides of the hull are panels, and the hull lines run along the length of the boat.

The armament is a hybrid of projectile and missile based solutions, led by a single 76mm AK-176 series deck gun with a turret. There are 2 x 30mm automatic cannons as well as 2 x 2-cell YJ-83 anti-ship missile launchers and an 8-cell FL-3000N Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) launcher.

In addition, there are 2 x 324mm torpedo tubes in a triple-tube configuration.
