HMAS Anzac (FFH-150)

History

The Anzac-class frigates of the modern Royal Australian Navy (RAN) currently consist of eight warships, the first of which was commissioned in 1996 (HMAS Anzac FFH-150). These types are used for general patrol operations and anti-submarine warfare (ASW).

Two other ships were built for this class and delivered to the Royal New Zealand Navy for service.

HMAS Anzac is the lead ship of the group, laid by Tenix Defense Systems on 5 November 1993. She was launched on September 16, 1994, and officially commissioned on May 18, 1996, forming the home port of the East Fleet base.

Fighting under the slogan "Unity", the warship maintains an active presence in the Australian fleet - having been deployed in operations off East Timor (1999), the Persian Gulf (2001-2003) and off the coast of Iraq (2003) ). became). In addition to her Meritorious Unit Medal, she proudly displayed two inherited combat honors (Korea and Malaya).

When completed, the HMAS Anzac had a full displacement of 3,810 tons, a barrel length of 387 feet, a beam of 49 feet, and a draft of 13 feet. Her installed power includes a GE LM2500 gas turbine producing 30,000 hp and 2 x MTU 12V 1163 TB83 diesel units producing an additional 8,840 hp. The special unit installed on the warship is called a "combination of diesel or gas" - CODOG - and allows the ship to push it between cruising and blistering speeds using one or the other system as needed. While slightly better fuel mileage compared to the CODAG ("Combined Diesel and Gas") arrangement, it is considered a simpler and less expensive powerplant design.

According to reports, the ship can reach speeds of up to 27 knots and have a range of up to 6,900 miles.

Internally, HMAS Anzac employs 170 people. The system includes a standard sonar and an optional towed array. Raytheon provides the AN/SPS-49(V)8 ANZ air search radar (C/D band), while navigation will be provided by the Kelvin Hughes Sharpeye system (S band). Combat data system consists of Saab 9LV453 Mk 3E.

Link 11 and Link 16 systems. For self-defense, various countermeasures that can be used are also installed.

Armament includes 1 x 5" (127 mm) Mk 45 Mod 2 deck gun and turret. 2 x Harpoon Block II (quad launchers) for anti-ship service (after 2004). Mk 41 Mod 5 Vertical The launch system (VLS) can support Sea Sparrow and Evolved Sea Sparrow surface-to-air missiles with 2 Rafael "Mini Typhoon" units (post 2004) for extreme close-range defense against incoming air threats.

Weapons are provided by 2 x 324mm Mk 32 Mod 5 triple torpedo tubes, firing MU90 torpedoes (initially Mk 46 series torpedoes).

The shape of this warship is consistent with ships designed in the 1990s. There are some large "stealth" panels on the sides. The deck gun was mounted fore and aft, with a raised deck section aft of which contained Harpoon missile launchers.

The bridge is just aft of this area with an exposed pylon assembly. Midships are another type of mast structure, more enclosed than the front, with a chimney behind. The roofline of the rear superstructure is continuous, extending to the edge of the helicopter hangar.

Aft is a helipad for servicing a medium helicopter. Typically, a Sikorsky SH-60 Seahawk is carried.

The first notable operation of HMAS Anzac was a peacekeeping operation in 1999. From 2001 to 2003, it participated with coalition forces in operations as part of the "War on Terror", and its weapons were used in anger against enemy positions inland.

In 2005 it took part in the Northern Trident and was able to commemorate the fallen during the 90th anniversary of the Gallipoli landing in the First World War (1914-1918). From there, anti-piracy operations spanned the Arabian Sea.

In 2014, the warship underwent weapon upgrades that improved its scanning, tracking and attack capabilities, as well as missile defense capabilities. This continued until 2015. That year, the ship once again commemorated the centenary of the landing at Gallipoli's sacrifice.
