KDB Darulaman (OPV-08)

History

The Royal Brunei Navy was established in June 1965 and today has a modest maritime force, the bulk of which consists of patrol boats of all shapes and sizes. The most impressive is the Darussalan class, built in Germany by the Lussen shipyard in Bremen-Wiggsack.

A total of four were procured, one of which - KDB Darulaman (OPV-08) - was commissioned in 2011. These vessels are deployed in maritime patrol roles.

This class is represented by a design that is 260 feet long and 43 feet wide. The displacement is 1,625 tons. They are equipped with a 57mm bow-mounted Bofors turret, supported by 2 x 20mm Oerlikon guns, while carrying 4 x Flying Fish MM40 Block 3 anti-ship missiles. In addition to armament, the ships are equipped with Thales Sting EO Mk 2 fire control radar, Terma Scanter 4100 series air and surface search radar and Zeiss MEOS II electro-optical system.

The standard operator is 55 and the aft helipad can accommodate a Navy helicopter.

Power comes from 2 MTU 12V diesel gensets providing 11,400 hp to 2 axles. Top speed in ideal conditions is 22 knots and range is 7,500 nautical miles. Onboard storage is designed to keep ships at sea for up to 21 days.

KDB Darulaman has been in service since 2011. Her sisters joined her in commissioning from 2011 to 2014.
