History

The modern Russian Navy has at least two Krivak-class ships (Project 1135 Burevestnik) with a displacement of 3,575 tons, which were built to frigate standards during the Cold War (1947-1991). Fighter jets are built.

Ultimately, 40 of the class were built and operated under the naval flags of allies such as India, North Korea and Ukraine, but today (2018) their numbers have been significantly reduced. It is well known that two examples of the Russian Navy, Ladny (also known as "Ladnyy") and Pytlivyy, are in service with the Black Sea Fleet.

The ships of the Krivak II class and Krivak-III became modernized versions of the class.

This class and its subgroups have been used to replace aging Riga-class frigates since the 1950s. Both the Talwar class and the Admiral Grigorovich class are subclasses of the Krivak class ships and are detailed elsewhere on this page.

Ladny (translated as "harmonic") - the subject of this article - was laid by the shipyard Kamysh-Burun in Kerch on May 25, 1979 and on May 7, 1980 on December 29, 1980 Day into the sea. As such, Ladny is a veteran of the Soviet naval fleet and the modern Russian Navy.

This type is classified as a guided missile frigate, which means its primary armament is centered on surface attack and airspace denial missiles. Frigates are usually built to fast and agile standards and can operate independently or as part of a main force.

As a result, her weapons are often multiple options against any maritime (or underwater) threat the ship may encounter. This enables them to play useful roles outside of direct combat, such as: B. Provide escort or fleet support to capital ships such as aircraft carriers.

Her profile includes rocket launchers placed horizontally, mounted above the forecastle, with a bridge structure directly aft. The superstructure houses various antenna, communication and sensor units that are critical to the ship's functional (and overall) survival. The rear of the superstructure is a complex lattice tower with a busy network of system installations.

The funnel is of a low profile design near the midship, while a pair of in-line turrets are located aft with the hull line sloping towards the stern.

When complete, the Ladny will displace 3,420 tons under full load, with a barrel length of 405 feet, a beam of 46 feet, and a draft of 15 feet. Power comes from a combined gas and gas unit (COGAG), using 2 x M62 GTs for cruising and 2 x M8K GTs for sprinting maneuvers.

The former produces 12,000 horsepower and the latter 36,000 horsepower. This powers 2 axles located below the stern and propels the vessel to 30 knots and a range of 3,500 miles under ideal conditions - giving warships good "legs" for blue water operations.

There are 197 crew members on board. The air search radar component is the MR-310U Angara-M / Head Net-C 3D system. She is also equipped with a hull-mounted MGK-332MC "Titan-2"/"Bull Nose" MF system, and a "Smerch" with a "Bell Shroud" interceptor unit deployed in an electronic warfare (EW) role.

2 x towed array for submarine hunting maneuvers. Only Krivak III-class ships support an anti-submarine helicopter on the aft flight deckthe Ladny does not.

The armament line is guided by 4 x URK-5 (SS-N-14) Rastrub/Silex Surface-to-Surface/Anti-Ship Missile (SSM/ASM) launchers on the foredeck. Carry 2 Osa-MA-2 (SA-N-4 "Gecko") Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) systems to counter low-altitude air threats to ships.

For close range work, 2 x 76.2mm AK-726 twin gun turret turrets are mounted aft amidships. The warship is also equipped with 4 x 21" anti-submarine/anti-submarine torpedo launchers that can deploy up to 16 mines, which can be used to block strategic waterways.

Despite her Cold War roots, Ladny can still be considered a formidable surface combatant thanks to her modern missile weapons and shipboard systems.
