History

The Tuojiang class is a modern frigate battleship utilized by the Republic of China Navy, featuring 12 stealth-focused ships designed to minimize radar signals. The lead ship, Takue, was completed in 2017, with plans for 11 more vessels. This class is a result of the "Jihai" program initiated in 2010 to enhance Taiwan's naval capabilities, with construction starting in 2012.

Weighing 567 tons at full load, the Tuojiang boasts a shallow draft, allowing it to operate along Taiwan's coast and navigate deep waters. Powered by an MTU 20V 4000 M93L engine with 5,766 hp, the frigate can achieve a top speed of 40 knots. Its catamaran hull layout contributes to both speed and seaworthiness, enabling operation in sea conditions up to class 7.

The vessel's versatility is evident in its advanced sensor systems and a crew of 41. It is equipped with CS/SPG-6N(S) and CS/SPG-6N(T) radars for surface search and fire control, depth sonar for submarine detection, and an electronic warfare suite with a 12-counter IR/RF chaff dispenser kit. Armament includes anti-ship missiles, a deck gun, a phalanx system for air defense, machine guns for close-range defense, torpedo tubes, and a helideck for launching and recovering a medium lift transport helicopter. The Tuojiang's futuristic design features a flat, featureless bow and an enclosed bridge structure integrated into the hull superstructure.
