History

The L96A1 is a sniper rifle manufactured by Accuracy International and is currently the sniper rifle of choice for the British Army. The L96 has an adjustable stock, an integrated adjustable bipod, and static iron sights (although the 6x42 Schmidt & Bender scope was standard on the original production model).

The L96 initially successfully competed with the Parker-Hale Model 85 rifle in the mid-1980s as the British Army's standard sniper rifle, replacing the aging Lee-Enfield L42A1 series. The construction process incorporates light alloys, plastics and metals into the design.

This fusion allows for greater field abuse (weapons may take a lot of external punishment but still keep the internal components in good working order).

The Accuracy International L96 Sniper Rifle is designed for 600 yards of first hits and 1,100 yards of harassing fire. It has been upgraded with new x3-x12 x50 scopes and sights. Some units are also equipped with the L115A1 Long Range Rifle (LRR), which fires an 8.59mm round, which is heavier than the L96's 7.62mm round and is less likely to be deflected at extreme distances. The free-floating barrel of the L96A1 is made of stainless steel and can be replaced within 5 minutes.

The system itself is designed to enable individual users to perform all but the most major repairs themselves in the field, the tools required are three Allen keys and a screwdriver.

The L96A1 is designed to fire the 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge from a 10-round detachable magazine. An adjustable bipod is mounted under the front barrel. The gun has a muzzle velocity of 2,790 feet per second.

The L96A1 can also be equipped with various scope mounts, collapsible stocks and silencers, and is commercially available. a soldier. Also available in 50 caliber (12.7 mm).

The L96 is part of Accuracy International's larger line of "Arctic Warfare" rifles for use in the military, special forces and law enforcement. The L96A1 is the British Army's designation for the Accuracy International PM ("Marksman") model, which entered the competition as the standard British sniper rifle.
