AMT Hardballer History

From 1977 to 2002, the now-bankrupt Arcadia Machine and Tool (AMT) in Irvingdale, CA manufactured the "Hardballer" - a semi-automatic all stainless steel version of the classic Colt M1911 pistol. The sidearms carry the same form and function as the original and include more changes such as greater grip safety, brushed stainless steel finishes, wide target triggers and adjustable rear sights.

The core of the weapon remains a short recoil operating system with a locked breech. After the collapse of AMT, the production of pistols was taken over by Galena Industries.

Variations of the series include "Fighting Government"/"Government" for the police market (although originally designed for the shooter market), "Longslide" with a 7" barrel (and correspondingly elongated slides) ), "Skipper"" compact with 4" barrel, "Commando" with .40 S&W magazine (later improved to compact), with 7" barrel and loaded with .400 Corbon cartridge "Accelerator", and the 10mm automatic model "Javelina" with 8-round magazine capacity. This series also appeared in the original Colt M1911 .45 ACP.

The original name "hardballer" came from the use of round nose full metal jacket (FMJ - aka "hardball") ammunition in the gun. The AMT Hardballer is the first all stainless steel version of the classic M1911 pistol.
