History

Arges Type HG 84 series anti-personnel grenades are of Austrian nature. It is a traditional grenade system designed to inflict massive damage to soft targets within its blast radius by throwing shrapnel at high speed at a distance of 30 meters.

The HG 84 ("Handgranate 84") was developed as a replacement for the HG 78 series and is considered an improvement on the original weapon.

Externally, the HG 84 is a conventionally designed grenade with a round egg-shaped fuselage. The fuze is activated by removing the pull tab and safety device, and the grenade is fired into the target area. Range is the furthest the launcher can throw, although the blast can propel shrapnel over 100 yards.

The HG 84 has a ribbed outer body and a small profile to ensure one-handed grip.

The HG 84 range also includes the OFF HG 84 (??OFFensive Hand Grenade Type 84) lighter, which has a smooth outer shell and a debris-free plastic core. This version is also manufactured by Arges in Austria and by Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF) in Pakistan (referred to as "84-P2A1").
