History of the Barrett M82
The Barrett Model 82, designated "M107" when in service with the United States, was introduced by the American Barrett Firearms Company in 1982 and developed as a large-caliber, scoped, long-range anti-material rifle (sarcastically called For "Light Fifty"). The gun chambered for 0.50" Browning 12.7x99mm cartridges, the first arms sale of the Barrett was the sale of 100 M82A1 rifles (known as "Ag 90") to the Swedish Army in 1989, making it a The first modern semi-automatic large-caliber sniper rifle was accepted for quantitative combat service by any armed forces. The M82 - also known as the SASR ("Special Application Range Rifle") is designed as a multi-purpose weapon system - capable of engaging lightly armored vehicles, detonating ammunition (such as improvised explosive devices) at a safe distance or interacting with Enemy personnel engage (with dire consequences for human targets). The effective range is more than 1500 meters, and the strike distance can reach 2500 meters.
API (armor-piercing, incendiary) has proven effective against hardened targets such as buildings, trucks and parked aircraft. The M82 has also been used to attack human targets behind walls, although anti-personnel work is not the weapon's primary use.
The operation of the weapon uses the principle of short recoil, a large amount of energy is transferred from the exiting cartridge to the breech face. Semi-automatic action extracts and ejects spent cartridges and loads new magazines from detachable 10-round magazines traditionally mounted under the receiver. The receiver has a clean, purposeful approach and has a booster on the right side of the fuselage above the magazine. The M82 comes standard with iron sights, but comes with standard 10 optical sights.
It is usually launched from a prone position with the help of an integrated folding bipod assembly, and can also be mounted on the US Army's M82 tripod. The mobile phone consists of upper and lower parts, which are stamped from steel plates. The barrel is made of natural durable material and is clearly grooved to improve heat dissipation while reducing weight. The unit is equipped with a large dual-baffle muzzle brake to deal with violent recoil. On earlier models, the muzzle brake was cylindrical in cross-section, while later M82 rifles were equipped with dual-chamber brakes of rectangular cross-section.
The large stock is an integral part of the weapon's design and can be used as a carrying handle. A special carrying handle is attached to the weapon, which can be folded down to the left.
A variant of the M82 - the M82A1A SASR - is an almost identical production model, but with a heavy barrel and an improved extractor, specifically designed to fire the Raufoss Mk 211 Mod 0 cartridge, a API ammo. The M82A2 is a lesser-known production model with a "bull-fight" configuration - the magazine and breech behind the pistol grip assembly. The base of the M82A1 can be fitted with a harness, but according to those who have carried it this way in the field, the M82's excessive length and weight make it too uncomfortable to carry on the shoulders.
It is usually placed in a special soft or hard case, which is placed in the back.
The M82 is used by many professional military and security units around the world, including US Special Forces and the regular army. In practice, it is huge. The 50 caliber cartridge is known to cleanly pierce the entire engine block of a truck. In this way, the weapon can also be used to disable critical components of armored vehicles (optics, sensors, tracking systems), including main battle tanks. The U.S.
