Heckler & Koch HK P30 History
Germany's older Heckler & Koch P2000 series semi-automatic pistols were introduced in 2001. The line was then modernized by HK to supply the "P30", the prototype of which was once known under the name "P3000".
The 2006 latest entry, developed by Frank Henninger, was introduced after the .40 S&W model and several trigger variants were brought in, while some parts were interchangeable with earlier P2000 series. In the end, the P30 proved to be a true design of its own, adopted by specialized military and police units in Europe and elsewhere, as well as by the civilian market as a whole.
Internally, the weapon has short recoil, relying on a Browning-type burst barrel and locked breech assembly. The effective range is up to 50 meters. It is fed from a detachable 15-round magazine (base model) inserted into the grip. The P30SK (Super Compact) also uses a 9x19mm Parabellum magazine, but due to the reduced size of the weapon, it supports a 10-round magazine.
That . The 40 S&W version has a magazine capacity of 13 rounds due to changing cartridges. Iron sights are used on all models, and a portion of the Picatinny rail visible below the muzzle adds support for tactical accessories - a feature not found in the earlier P2000 model series.
The jab is also exposed on the back of the breech - another quality not found on the P2000.
The P30L has longer rails, the P30S, P30LS and P30SKS are all variants with optional external (smart) thumb safety.
To date (2016), global operators include Germany (customs, police), Malaysia (PASKAL special forces), Norway (police), Portugal (police, national guard) and Switzerland (police).
