History of the Mossberg M590M Shockwave

New for 2018 is the 12 caliber Mossberg 590M "Shockwave", a magazine release version of the very successful 590 range of pump action shotguns used by military, security/police, special forces and civilian gun owners world. The 590 series has proven to be very popular in a variety of markets for its reliability and close-to-mid-range killing power.

The M model offers significantly improved reload speed and ammo carrying capacity for shotgun weapons.

The Model 590M was first announced at SHOT 2018 in Las Vegas.

The Model 590M retains the form and function of the proven Model 590 series, with the notable exception of the curved detachable magazine protruding from the underside of the front of the receiver. The magazine is inserted directly into the shaft in front of the trigger group. The shoulder rest has an integrated pistol grip, and a large ejection port is located on the right side of the frame. The slider sits on top of the downtube, which doubles as a spring-loaded tube magazine. The barrel is mounted on this tube in the usual way.

Iron sights are suitable for long-range shooting.

The centralized positioning of the magazine in the 590M makes the pistol more balanced, which improves accuracy. Ambidextrous safety systems, drilled and threaded receiver designs, thick-walled barrel assemblies and dual extractors are present.

All of this results in an excellent melee weapon (CQB) for the most discerning clientele.

Ammo capacities ranging from 5, 10, 15 and 20 round designs are stored in a patented spring loaded double layer magazine - said to be the world's first for a shotgun box. Stabilizing ribs help guide the magazine into place every time for a safe closing process.

A release button is located in front of the trigger to release the magazine from its shaft, which is ambidextrous for different shooters.

There are currently (2018) three main models in the Shockwave line. Two have full shoulder rests (S/N 50205 and 50206), while the third (S/N 50208) has a pistol grip assembly. All are 12 gauge chambers. The 50205 and 50208 have cylinder bore chokes, while the 50206 has a cylinder precision choke system.

The first pair of sights are pearl type, while the 50206 has a ghost ring. All products are available in a matte blue finish, with 50205 and 50206 stocked in synthetic black. The 50208 has a "Raptor Grip" corncob front end with a matching strap. The 50205 and 50206 have an overall length of 39.5 inches and corresponding weights of 7.75 lbs and 8 lbs.

The 50208 has an overall length of 27.5 inches and a weight of 6.55 lbs.
