NORINCO LG3 Story

Following other world powers, the Chinese military was the first to adopt a 40mm automatic grenade launcher called the LG3. The weapon is manufactured under the Norinco brand label, which also directs the design, development and manufacture of a number of warfare equipment, including main battle tanks (MBTs), small arms and artillery. The LG3 is very traditional in design, operation and appearance, with the belt fed from the left and the used case ejected from the right.

Modifications can be made to reverse the feed/eject system. The operator controls the weapon via a spade handle at the rear, and the muzzle is closed by a slotted brake. The weapon is usually mounted on a sturdy, adjustable tripod assembly and operated by at least two people.

Like other weapons of this type, the LG3 carries a 40x53mm High Velocity (HV) grenade for anti-infantry roles. The choice of this caliber allows the weapon to use captured Western ammunition stocks if necessary, as it is the primary projectile for the U.S. Army and NATO forces.

Warhead types are variable, allowing for some tactical flexibility, such as firing anti-personnel shells, smoke and lighting depending on battlefield conditions. A chain strap can hold 30 grenades. The weapon can achieve a rate of fire of 350 to 400 rounds per minute over a target area of ??up to 2,200 meters (effective range).

Provides iron sights when deploying optics by default.

The LG3 is 1,030mm long and has an operating weight of nearly 42kg. The operation is fully automatic - only by the proven blowback/closure bolt action.
