History

Facing the threat of invasion from neighboring China, the Asia-Pacific island nation of Taiwan has the responsibility to deploy a capable, defensive standing army. This army requires a full range of weapon types, from armored vehicles and air support to standard infantry.

The T93 is a bolt-action rifle specifically designed for the sniper role, providing precision/accuracy against unsuspecting elements at a range.

Specialists at the 205th Armory began work on the design of this long gun around 2003, and the rifle was shown to the public in 2007.

The rifle is largely traditional in layout, form and function, mimicking successful designs such as the Remington M24 Sniper Weapon System (SWS) described elsewhere on this site. It holds the ubiquitous 7.62x51mm NATO standard rifle cartridge, a proven range magazine, and fires from a 5-round internal magazine. The action is a manually operated bolting system that requires the operator to operate the bolt handle mounted on the right side of the receiver. The stock is adjustable and integrated into the curved pistol grip. The trigger hangs under the receiver and is protected by a flat, thick ring.

The opening allows manipulation with gloved hands.

The front end is right in the middle of the weapon. The full-length floating barrel is located inside the receiver and extends slightly. The receiver also has a section of Picatinny rail for attaching accessories, usually scopes and/or night vision goggles (interestingly, there is no connecting rail section on the front side).

A foldable bipod sits under the front end and can be folded for travel/transportation.

Effective range up to 800 meters. The T93 demonstrated reliability and accuracy during extensive testing before entering service with the Republic of China (Taiwan) Army and Marine Corps.
