History of the Savage Arms M720

The Savage M720 exists as a semi-automatic bolt-action shotgun from the Savage Arms company. The company's history dates back to 1894, when Jamaican-born Arthur W. Savage founded the Savage Arms Company. Savage subsequently acquired the rival Stevens Corporation in 1920 and then began to play a role in World War II (1939-1945) with an early involvement in the manufacture of the Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk I rifle for the British The government is.

The company then turned to manufacturing the M720 (Type 720) when the U.S. was involved in the war, and the U.S. government eventually procured 14,527 of them. They take on the roles of safety weapons and airsoft instructors in traditional hand-to-hand combat.

Procurement was extended from 1942 to 1945.

Unlike traditional pump slide shotguns, the Stevens M720 is a semi-automatic product based on the patent of the great American gunsmith John Moses Browning (1855-1926). As a result, the front baffle is mounted around the tubular magazine, and the breech is noticeably rectangular - in fact, it mimics the lines of the 1905 Remington "Model 11" autoloader designed by John Browning. The pistol grip is one piece with the shoulder rest, and both are of wood construction (and the front end).

The barrel is located above the magazine and inserted into the front of the receiver as usual. The charging handle and ejection port have been relocated to the right side of the fuselage, while the charging port is located under the receiver for easy access to the magazine.

The trigger unit is placed in a rifle-like arrangement near the grip.

Unlike other wartime shotguns, the M720 is not equipped with bayonet lugs or heat shields due to its unique semi-automatic capabilities. So, as seen on other noteworthy lines, the "trenched gun" version was not completed. Instead, the shortened barrel "riot gun" basic form was accepted and used by security personnel. Conversely, long-barreled versions were also purchased and used for aerial firing training, prompting organizations such as the U.S.

Navy to adopt this type of inventory as well.
