History of the Dassault Falcon 6X

Growing problems with the Silvercrest engines powering the Falcon 5X business jet program (described in detail elsewhere on this site) led to the program's permanent cancellation as early as October 2017. Two months later, the Falcon 6X was announced as the successor to its predecessor. While the Dassault design is promising, this time the product will feature a proven Pratt & Whitney Canada turbofan.

Dassault demonstrated its successor, the Falcon 6X business jet, on February 28, 2018.

The Falcon 6X retains much of the form and function of the commercial success of the Falcon 5X. Its design shape places the outboard motor on a short bracket located in the stern section. The rear-mounted position of the engine makes for a quieter cabin. The engine is lighter but larger, and the fuselage has been stretched (also widened) by about 20 inches to accommodate the change for better balance.

The result is more cabin space for passengers (with eight seats), as well as more internal fuel storage for longer range. The aircraft has an estimated range of 5,500 nautical miles and is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW812D series turbofan engines, each delivering up to 14,000 pounds of thrust.

In addition, the aircraft has a largely traditional business jet look, with the side-by-side cockpit mounted behind a short, downward-sloping nose cone. The wing main aircraft was mounted low and swept aft, while saving fuel through winglets on the wingtips.

The rear wing consists of a vertical plane with a horizontal plane connected in the middle. A typical tricycle landing gear arrangement is used for ground operations. Cockpit avionics will be the EASy flight deck system (Honeywell Primus Epic).

Dimensions include a wingspan of 85 feet, a length of 84.2 feet, and a height of 24.5 feet.

The Falcon 6X is expected to enter service between 2021 and 2020, with flight testing beginning in early 2021. Its main competitors in the market will be the Gulfstream G500 and G600 aircraft, which, according to the customer list, will enjoy a significant lead.

Founded in 1929, Dassault Aviation SA is interested in military enterprises worldwide, but like other defense product suppliers, it is also interested in commercial market products to balance revenue. The company currently (2018) employs nearly 12,000 people worldwide and is active in the civilian, military and space markets.
