Plot-40 is an experimental Russian floating fire-support platform developed to defend naval bases, ports, and coastal infrastructure against uncrewed surface vessels and other drone threats.
The prototype combines a persistent observation post with a remotely operated machine-gun module. Its developers intend the platform to remain deployed at sea for extended periods.
The project emerged after analysis of attacks on naval infrastructure showed the vulnerability of conventional port defences to small uncrewed systems.
The completed prototype was presented to Leningrad Region governor Alexander Drozdenko in Vyborg in July 2026. Photographs and video published from the presentation provided the first detailed public view of the platform. Contemporary reports from Militarnyi and Voennoe Delo described it as a locally developed experimental system.
A specialized Russian Navy research institute reportedly granted preliminary approval to the project. This approval allowed the developers to proceed toward an initial demonstration on the water, but the available reports do not establish that formal trials or operational deployment have occurred.
Regional officials stated that production would be localized in the Leningrad Region. No production order, delivery schedule, or planned quantity has been disclosed.
Design
Plot-40 uses a compact floating hull with an enclosed, angular superstructure. Its sloped sides surround most of the visible hull, while the weapon module is installed on the roof. The configuration is intended to provide a stationary or slow-moving defensive position near protected maritime infrastructure.
The platform carries a remotely operated machine-gun module intended to engage approaching surface threats. One report also described engagement of aerial targets, but the available information does not identify the weapon type, caliber, ammunition capacity, sensors, stabilization system, or fire-control equipment.
Published descriptions emphasize prolonged deployment at sea and use as an observation post. Displacement, dimensions, propulsion, endurance, speed, electrical supply, sensor fit, and construction materials have not been disclosed.
It remains unclear whether Plot-40 requires personnel aboard, is controlled remotely from shore, or is intended to possess autonomous target-recognition functions. Claims that it is fully unmanned or uses artificial intelligence therefore remain unconfirmed.
Covert Shores noted a designation discrepancy: displayed artwork used PLOT-40, while a post attributed to the regional governor referred to PLOT-47. Available evidence does not establish whether Plot-47 is an alternative name, a revised version, or a separate platform.
Program status
As publicly presented in July 2026, Plot-40 was a completed experimental prototype. It had reportedly received preliminary institutional approval, but there was no confirmed evidence of acceptance into Russian Navy service, serial production, or operational use.
The platform was displayed alongside experimental uncrewed boats and other port-protection systems. These associated projects were separate exhibits and are not confirmed components of Plot-40.
