History of the Remington Model 700

The Remington Model 700 (M700) series of rifles comes in civilian, law enforcement and military forms. Remington Arms production began in 1962 and continues today. The system fires multiple ammunition types based on model and barrel. The U.S. Army's M24 Sniper Weapon System (SWS) and the U.S.

Marine Corps' M40 rifle are both militarized versions of this civilian design.

Ammo is fed from a 3, 4, 5 or 6 round internal magazine via a 2 lug bolt action. Detachable magazines may appear on special security and military versions.

Civilian versions of the rifle include the models 700 ADL, BDL and CDL, while police versions include two main products, the 700P and 700P (LTR), the main difference between each police model is the barrel type.

The base model 700 weighs approximately 6 lbs, 12 oz (unladen). The overall length is 1,055mm and the barrel lengths are 22, 24 and 26 inches. Accessories include bipods, shoulder straps and various scopes.
