History
The MXT-MV was designed and developed by Navistar International's international military and government arm (now known as Navistar Defense) and Navistar International's subsidiary Diamond Force Engineering in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. Development was led by Jim Bartel, Dick Rief, Wes Schultz, Ron Byrd, John Glass, Paul Klein and Britt Smart. The MXT-MV was on display at the 2005 Association of the United States Army (AUSA) annual exhibition at the Washington Convention Center in October. The following August, the MXT-MVA version was shown to the U.S. Army at the Aberdeen Proving Ground.
The MXT-MVA was Navistar's selection for the 2008 U.S. Army MRAP All Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV) program, but the Army chose to procure the Oshkosh M-ATV.
In 2009, the British Army ordered an improved version of the MXT-MVA. This variant was known as the Husky in the British Army.
The Husky was ordered to replace the British Army's Snatch Land Rovers in Afghanistan, and the off-road vehicle proved insufficient to protect its occupants from improvised explosive devices. A total of 262 cars were originally ordered.
In 2010, an additional 89 vehicles were ordered, valued at $56 million.
